10 Recycled Items to Start Seeds In
One of the reasons that I like to grow my own food is for the cost savings. Using recycled items to start my seeds cuts cost. Below are 10 different recycled items you can start your seedlings in.
1.) Milk Jug Greenhouses
It is easy to save your milk jugs over the year. I use milk jugs for two reasons in gardening. One is they make excellent mini greenhouses. Secondly, in a pinch, you can cut off the bottom and use the top as a funnel.

2.) Recycle Toilet Paper or Paper Toweling Tubes Into Pots
Cut toilet paper tubes in half. Paper towel tubes in fourths. Fold one end up to hold soil. Plant seeds.
The container can be planted directly into the ground outdoors.
3.) Make Seedling Cups Out of Newspaper
I made a video to explain how to do this. Pretty simple. The first two you might struggle a little to get everything to line up. I assure you, the remaining cups are simple and will go smooth.

4.) Egg Cartons
Another useful item that we normally throw out. Paper egg cartons make excellent recycled items to start seeds. If they outgrow their homes, you can plant them directly into another container.
5.) Egg Shells

Save your breakfast eggshells to plant your seeds in. Once planted the shells also add a little calcium to the soil. Nothing going to waste here.
6.) Milk Cartons
Save your milk cartons for spring planting. Love repurposing anything I can. It is money you don’t have to spend!
7.) Straw Bales
If you used straw bales to decorate for fall, in the spring you can repurpose them. Start your seeds or plant small seedlings using this unique way.

8.) Use Old Dresser Drawers
Build a vertical growing space to start your seeds with plenty of room to grow. This design is an excellent way to start your flower seeds.

Have an old dresser laying around? It makes a wonderful raised bed that allows you to cover the slots with plastic for starting seeds.

10.) Any Plastic Container
Save yogurt, sour cream and butter containers. Well, really any plastic container. Pop out the plants and plant in your garden.
Thinking ahead to save containers and using recycled items to start seeds will save your pocketbook a few dollars. For me, that is enough motivation.
