Canyon Falls
My daughter and I are heading out to spend a couple of days in Upper Michigan. No plans, just driving looking to get ourselves into some trouble as I told my husband. Canyon Falls was a bathroom stop that turned into a hidden treasure.
Canyon Falls was an awesome way to spend a few unexpected hours hiking. My daughter and I climbed all over the canyon and gorge, taking in every aspect in the short amount of time we had to explore the area.
This is a small roadside park, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that one might miss if you were just driving past. Nothing about it screams put the brakes on and stop. Matter of fact, we almost didn’t.

Hidden Gem
It looks like every other county road bathroom pit stop. At least from the road there really isn’t anything to see. A few picnic tables and bathrooms.

Oh, but, YES! Do stop! It’s Impressive. Even if you have a half an hour when traveling through the area, this is one stop that deserves at least a half an hour.
Rock ledges, trails, waterfalls and a river that has carved out a rock canyon. Just beautiful!
I would never have expected such beauty was a short walk down a tree covered path in the woods.
We stopped in the morning, but as a photographer I will tell you it is not the stop to make in the morning. This place deserves your full attention in late afternoon sun.
The sun wouldn’t interfere with your pictures at that time. Otherwise, the sun is just glaring into your lens at every turn.
But, again; that didn’t much matter. It was fun to explore.
We decided Ishpeming, Michigan will be the next leg of the trip so I can show our daughter where her father spent a few months as a teen. We are stopping in at Da Yoopers Tourist Trap when in town. We need a few laughs!
