Nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Richmond, Wisconsin, lies a hidden gem that captivates visitors with its natural beauty and tranquil ambiance – Glimmer Falls. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life, these enchanting small drops & rapids offer a serene escape into nature, beckoning adventurers and nature lovers alike to explore its wonders.
Glimmer Falls, also known as Ziemers Falls and “The Rock” by the locals is not as widely known as some of Wisconsin’s more famous natural attractions, but holds its charm and allure. I’d consider this more of a rapids over waterfall but the area is pretty.

Surrounded By Nature
Along the winding trail watch and listen for wildlife. We heard or located crows, woodpeckers, a bald eagle, and partridge. We also located a white-tailed deer skeleton, shelf fungi, and a variety of pinecones and acorns.
This location might provide a great deal of wildflowers, moss, and additional fungi to explore and also be a perfect location for bird watching during the mid to late spring.

The first thing we heard was the male partridge drumming. One of the most iconic aspects of the partridge mating ritual is the drumming sound produced by male birds. This rhythmic pounding, generated by the rapid beating of their wings, serves multiple purposes.
The mating rituals of partridge birds (ruffed grouse) are a spectacle to behold. In Wisconsin, these birds typically mate during the spring months, as nature awakens from its winter slumber. Male partridges, with their distinctive ruffs of feathers around their necks, engage in elaborate courtship displays to attract females. These displays often involve wing-flapping, puffing up their chests, and emitting low, resonant calls to establish dominance and win over potential mates.
The air was filled with drumming wings and echoing calls, creating a symphony of nature reverberating through the forest.
