Composting with Worms
Have you heard about composting with worms? Vermicomposting? Worm farming? It is a wonderful eco-friendly way to create nutrient-rich vermicompost. Plus, worm tea for your soil.
Why Worm Farm?
I know you just asked what the heck is worm tea! Worm tea is the liquid extraction of the minerals and elements found in worm castings.
You use it to water your plants. Believe me, when I tell you that you will grow stronger, happier plants when you feed them this “tea”.

Worm castings are the nutrient-filled soil left behind by the worm’s waste. Castings are great for starting seeds, container gardening or even in the vegetable garden to help improve the soil.

What Can You Put in It?
You can dispose of your shredded newspaper, vegetable rinds, coffee grounds and vegetable peelings in an earth-friendly way and your plants will profit greatly.
Where Can You Store Your Bin?
I have heard that some people keep their bins right in their homes, in their kitchen, under their sink, and in closets. I am not that brave.
Mine is kept outside in the shade. Then in the winter, I need to move mine into the garage.
In the garage, I keep mine on a dolly, so I can move it freely from place to place.
If you live in an area without harsh winters you could get away with storing it outdoors on your deck or in your yard all season. LUCKY YOU!!

Special Notes:
1.) Be sure to order your worms when purchasing your composter. The worms do not come with your composter purchase unless it specifically states so.
2.) One additional thought. I know cost is always a concern when purchasing big-ticket items.
I would not pass on the systems that have 3 or more trays because of the cost,
I find them beneficial. If it were my choice, I would hold off on your purchase until I could purchase a unit with 3 trays or more. I find three to be enough. Four better.
I was disappointed with the two tray system. I really find this too important to note to pass along. Be sure the unit states in writing the number of trays.
